Getting Started
Starting Personal Finances opens the main windows of the program. The window displays all essential information: accounts, current balance in each account, list of transactions, associated with the selected account, and predefined time interval.
Main tools
- Transactions. - transactions can be grouped by categories, tags (or without grouping).
- Scheduler - the scheduler displays the list of recurring transactions.
- Calendar - the calendar shows all transactions organized by days. It can also display recurring transactions and account balance on any day in the past and estimated account balance in the future.
- Reports - graphs and diagrams showing the financial state visually.
The "View settings" button in the upper-right corner of the main window allows the user to switch between the display modes of the transaction tree. You can enable grouping by categories, tags, family members and transaction names. Below is a set of buttons to manage transactions: create a new transaction, edit or delete an existing one.
In the left area of the main window is a list of accounts. A double-click on an account opens its settings form where the user can edit the name, notes, specify the budget and select the icon. The "Accounts" dialog allows adding or deleting an account. Clicking the "Summary" button opens the complete list of transactions, regardless of the selected account.
Tips
The program can work with several databases. A database can be password protected to restrict access for unauthorized users. Users should make a backup copy of the database regularly and save it to an external storage device (CD / DVD disk). The backup copy will help you restore data quickly in case of system errors or computer crash. The database is stored as a single file, which makes it easy to create its backup copy – just select "Save As" in the File menu.
The demo database is loaded automatically when the program is launched for the first time. The database is partially filled – there are several accounts, a tree of categories and expenses for one month. Beginners are recommended to use this database: add transactions, accounts and play with the settings to familiarize themselves with the interface and functionalities.
