Importing data

importing dataThere are basically two ways that you can get your banking data into Personal Finances, entering each transaction from your paper bank statements into the program manually and downloading your online banking records and importing the data directly into Personal Finances Pro. You can import transactions to Personal Finances from QIF (Quicken Interchange Format), OFX (Open Financial Exchange), CSV (comma separated values) or txt files with any separator type (tab, comma, etc). This frequently used file types can be created by most financial software.

On the main menu, select Tools > Import. This opens a file selection window. Choose the type of file you want to import (QIF, OFX, CSV or TXT) from the dropdown list at the bottom of the window. Find and select the file and click Open. This opens the Import window. Select the settings and click OK.

The window for previewing imported transactions opens. Here you can select the transactions that you want to import. If everything is correct, click OK to complete the import. If there are errors (wrong dates, numbers, or invalid characters instead of text), click Cancel and adjust the import settings.

  1. Put a tick next to those transactions that are to be imported, the rest will be skipped. By default, unmarked are the transactions that are already in the database (if you enabled "Detect Duplicates").
  2. Transactions.
